Adventureland Secrets
- While lining up for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Adventureland, if you are directed to the right, there is a window that you can look through and see two skeletons playing a game of chess that appears to be locked in a stalemate.
One of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride designers was a huge Sid Caesar fan. If you look up at the bridge that you go under near the beginning of the ride, you will see two men on the bridge. The one whose hairy legs are dangling over the edge of the bridge appears to have Sid Caesar’s face! Or, could it be that Cid Caesar loved his Orlando vacation so much, that he decided never to leave?
- As you wait on the pier for your boat to arrive at The Jungle Cruise in Adventureland, you will hear a radio playing what seems to be an old radio show. If you listen carefully, in the song “You’re the Tops,” you will hear a mention of Mickey Mouse in a “subtle” change of lyrics.
Adventureland “Must See” Rides & Shows
Pirates of the Caribbean: Since the day The Magic Kingdom first opened, this Adventureland attraction has been a park favorite, delighting all who dare to cross under the threshold of the imposing fortress that houses the ride. Some of the most detailed Audio-animatronics ever created by Disney appear in this swashbuckling adventure that depicts a pirate celebration after a raid on a Caribbean island. One of the longest rides at The Magic Kingdom, this ten minute journey into the pirate’s life is sure to please the whole family. The lines for Pirates of the Caribbean can seem quite imposing at first but; because each boat holds 30 people, the wait is not as long as it might first seem to be. It is, nonetheless, one of Walt Disney World’s most popular attractions and there is not a FastPass available for it. You might want to visit this Adventureland favorite during the “non-peak” times, such as first thing in the morning or when a parade is going on.
Jungle Cruise: Enter the heart of the jungle and experience everything from the Amazon to African grasslands in this Adventureland voyage into the depths of silliness. The jokes don’t get any cornier than this, as your boat driver/tour guide points out the various sites and thrills during the “punniest” attraction you are likely to encounter on your Orlando vacation. The lines for the Jungle Cruise can get extremely long so take advantage of the FastPass which is available for this lighthearted Adventureland favorite.
The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management: The first Disney attraction to ever employ the use of Audio-animatronics, The Enchanted Tiki Room has long been a favorite of visitors to the Magic Kingdom theme park. Originally, the concept behind this delightful Adventureland show was to make it a restaurant but it turned out so well, that it was decided that the show would be an excellent stand-alone attraction. As the new name implies, The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management has undergone a facelift, adding some of the more recent Disney characters to the show. Aladdin’s Iago and Zazu from The Lion King have joined the colorful cast of birds, flowers and temple gods in this wonderful audience participation show to give it a more modern appeal. Longtime visitors need not despair, however, as their four favorite hosts Jose, Fritz, Michael and Pierre still lead the show with their silly antics and wit.
