Hollywood Studios - Mickey Avenue

Housing some of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ production facilities, Mickey Avenue is less about rides and more about how it is really done. Highlights of this section of the theme park are a tour of an actual movie studio backlot, a chance to win terrific Orlando vacation souvenirs while seeing how one of America’s top rated game shows is filmed and a special exhibit on the life of Walt Disney, himself.

MGM Backlot TourHollywood Studios Backlot Tour: At this attraction, park guests have the opportunity to tour an actual working studio. During the walking segment of the tour, a few lucky Orlando visitors will be chosen to participate in the filming of a battle at sea as visitors learn how small models are used to create big special effects in Hollywood. Later, aboard the tram ride portion of the tour, you will see seamstresses and other personnel hard at work at the movie industry’s largest working costume production facility. The tram ride continues through a props facility and scenery shop before entering Catastrophe Canyon, where you will experience an explosive firsthand look into the world of Hollywood pyrotechnics. The tour continues through the Boneyard, where you will recognize many of the vehicles that were used in cinema favorites like the Indiana Jones movies. The tour comes to an end at the Streets of America, an area that uses building facades and the principle of forced perspective to re-create cities like New York, London and San Francisco. This is an ideal area to add a few pictures of yourself, posing in various cities, to your Orlando vacation photo album!

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? - Play It!: Have you ever wondered how you would do if you had a chance to be in the “hot seat” on the popular Who Wants To Be A Millionaire game show? Your Orlando vacation just may give you a chance to find out! Audience members at this popular new attraction all get to participate with a keypad on which they select their answers to the trivia questions that are presented to the on-stage contestant. The audience member with the highest score is called up into the “hot seat” to be the next contestant whenever the previous contestant wins, loses or walks away with their earned prize(s). Free Orlando vacation souvenirs? And people say nothing is free at Disney!

Just like on the TV version of the show, “Ask the Audience” and “50/50” lifelines are available to contestants as they make their way through progressively harder questions that result in progressively bigger prizes. Although the “Phone A Friend” lifeline is not available, Disney offers its own version of the television show’s lifeline with one called “Phone A Complete Stranger,” in which a phone rings in the audience and a volunteer is called upon to help. Sorry, there is no cash at stake in this game but the grand prize is a three night Disney Cruise for four including airfare.

A FastPass is available for this widely popular show and it is recommended that you get one first thing in the morning if you would like a chance to compete.

Walt Disney - One Man's DreamWalt Disney - One Man’s Dream: Added during the 100 Years of Magic Celebration in 2001, Walt Disney - One Man’s Dream is a wonderful interactive exhibit which houses Disney memorabilia that has never before been seen by the public. This tour of the life of the man behind the mouse; Walt Disney, gives guests special insight into the trials and tribulations in the creation of Mickey Mouse, Disney Studios and the vision behind this man’s world famous theme parks.

The self guided tour includes more than 400 Disney artifacts and traces Walt Disney’s humble beginnings and the love of animals that so influenced his life to the Disney Studios where he earned 48 Oscars and 7 Emmys during his 43-year career. The exhibits found here allow guests to hear and see clips never before released to the public in an effort to help them understand the inspiration and philosophy of this very driven man. After making your way through the various interactive displays, there is a fifteen minute film presentation shown in a theater that is a true celebration of the man who’s inspiration made possible the magic that we have come to expect from all things Disney.
