Islands Of Adventure - The Lost Continent

Dueling DragonsDueling Dragons: Standing guard at the entrance to a once-majestic castle are the statues of two dragons, one red and one blue. Long ago deserted, this castle has become the arena for ferocious battles between the two dragons named Pyrrock (“Fire”) and Blizzrock (“Ice”). As park guests wind their way through the mysterious deserted castle they will notice that parts of it seem frozen while other areas are charred. Merlin’s pleas to the gods to end the warring between the two dragons have thus far been ignored. As you approach the two dragons at the end of the queue, you are instructed by Merlin to “choose thy fate.”

Although the two coasters start and finish at the same time on a set of parallel tracks, their paths separate and feature different twists, turns, inversions and speeds and thus, are two completely different roller coaster rides. This; the worlds first inverted and intertwined dual coaster, reaches top speeds of 55-60 miles per hour (depending which coaster you are on) and features three separate “near misses,” where the dragons come within 18 inches of each other as their paths cross. An extremely intense ride experience, the two minute and twenty-five second “battle” features a zero-G roll, a Cobra roll, two corkscrews and two vertical loops. There is an Express Pass available for this Orlando vacation attraction but keep in mind that if you want to ride both roller coasters, each pass is only good for your choice of one of the two.

WARNING: If you would like to experience Dueling Dragons at Universal’s Islands Of Adventure, there is a height restriction of at least 54 inches and individuals that suffer from back, neck, heart, motion sickness, or any other physical limitations and pregnant mothers shouldn't ride.

The Eighth Voyage Of SinbadThe Eighth Voyage Of Sinbad: While searching a cavern for “The Sultan’s Heart;” a giant ruby said to have unbelievable powers, Sinbad and Kabob stumble upon Princess Amora. She is being held captive by the evil sorceress Miseria in a ploy to see if she can trick Sinbad into uncovering the magical ruby for her. When Sinbad discovers the ruby, the evil sorceress conjures up evil warriors to kill the do-gooders and secure the ruby for her.

This action packed stunt show features 50 pyrotechnic effects including a ring of fire and a death-defying 22 foot dive into a pit of water by a stuntman set ablaze. An Express Pass is available but probably is not necessary for this Orlando vacation attraction which plays in a very large amphitheater.

Poseidon's FuryPoseidon’s Fury: While on a tour of the ancient temple of Poseiden led by a tour guide from the archeological organization known as “The Global Discovery Group,” a warning is issued to leave the temple immediately. Your tour guide, Taylor, fearing for the safety of the Global Discovery Group’s leader; Professor Baxter, presses onward.

Soon you learn that you have been trapped by the evil Lord Darkenon. In a frantic effort to find an escape route, you will find yourself in a secret undersea chamber filled with the skeletal remains of warrior guardians. Here, Taylor stumbles upon Poseidon’s Trident which he hopes will help to set everyone free. Ultimately, the Trident becomes the prize in a huge battle between Poseidon and Lord Darkenon. One fights with water, the other with fire.

This attraction’s special effects include the use of multiple lasers, water cannons, water mortars, and more than 200 individual fire effects, not to mention the massive water vortex that encircles one of the passageways that guests cross through in the cavern. An Express Pass is available for this attraction, as well.

WARNING: Parents should be advised that some children could become terrified by the evil Lord Darkenon and should; therefore, use caution before deciding to bring their children to Poseidon’s Fury at Universal’s Islands Of Adventure.

The Flying UnicornThe Flying Unicorn: No land of mythical beasts and legends would be complete without a flying unicorn! This coaster designed for kids has mild twists and turns and small drops. It is the perfect little ride for those adults who are traveling with children that find the three major roller coasters at the theme park a bit too intimidating.

WARNING: If you would like to experience The Flying Dragon at Universal’s Islands Of Adventure, there is a height restriction of at least 36 inches and riders over 56” in height must be accompanied by a child who meets the 36” height requirement. (In other words, no adults without children may ride this).

The Inside Spin

The Inside Spin

  • Stop by The Talking Fountain while you are visiting The Lost Continent. It answers questions, jokes around with park guests and shoots water at people.

  • At the top of the first hill; before the two coasters go on separate paths, they are weighed. A computer evaluates the weight of each and one is released before the other by an algorithmic time differential. This makes it possible for the Dueling Dragons to arrive at their “near miss” positions at precisely the right times.

  • At the entrance to Dueling Dragons, you will see a red and blue circle that intersect. This represents the clashing of the dragons and marks the best spot in the park to view all three of the “near misses” between the two coasters.
