Islands Of Adventure - Seuss Landing

The Cat In The HatThe Cat In The Hat: “This cat should not be here, he should not be about! He should not be here when your mother is out!” ... oh if Sally and Conrad had only listened to the fish. What am I saying? If they had listened to the fish we never would have had the Cat In The Hat, Thing One and Thing Two. Without the “Super Luxurious Omnidirectional Whatchamajigger,” what would we do?

We wouldn’t have this wonderful ride, that’s what! Board your vehicle; a car shaped like a sofa, and experience the entire Dr. Seuss favorite on this surprisingly fast-paced and colorful ride. Laser lights, animated figures and computer generated special effects all play their part in making this a ride that both kids and adults will thoroughly enjoy. Unless you wait until later in the afternoon or early evening, you might want to get an Express Pass for this very popular Orlando vacation attraction.

High In The Sky Seuss Trolley TramHigh In The Sky Seuss Trolley Tram: Since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, there have been part train/part roller coaster tracks winding through Seuss Landing but no ride to go with them. Ideas were implemented and scrapped then new ideas were implemented and scrapped again. The original ride was to be called “Sylvester McMonkey McBean’s Unusual Driving Machines.” Sorry Sneeches, you won’t be getting your own ride!

Rejoice, Orlando vacationers! High In The Sky Seuss Trolley Tram; the final incarnation of the ride for these mysterious tracks, has finally opened! Says Chris Lauren; the creative director of Seuss Landing, “We just wouldn’t open [a ride] until we got it right.” Since it has just opened, there is little information available about the ride and I have yet to experience it. I can only convey what the initial press releases mentioned about it ... it’s supposed to have many different items, scenes and characters from a variety of Dr. Seuss stories. The new ride is to have seven sections; some indoors and some outdoors, and is supposed to reach top speeds of 12 miles per hour. An Express Pass is available for this ride.

WARNING: If you would like to experience the High In The Sky Seuss Trolley Tram at Universal’s Islands Of Adventure, there is a height restriction of at least 34 inches. Children between 34 inches and 48 inches tall must be accompanied by an adult.

If I Ran The ZooIf I Ran The Zoo: This interactive play area is home to a lot of strange guests. Not the tourists; that is, but the permanent residents of this zany little area. Children can splash their way through fountains, crawl through tunnels and activate a variety of imaginative little Seuss critters here. Get your camera out, as this is one of the best spots in the park for Orlando vacation photographs!

CaroSeusselCaro-Seuss-el: Climb aboard a “Dog-Alope,” “Aqua-MopTop,” “Cowfish” and more at this colorful spin on the traditional carousel ride. Riders can even control their selected creatures by causing them to turn their heads, wiggle their ears or blink their eyes.

One Fish Two FishOne Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish: Control how high or low your fish goes while dodging other fish who spit water at the riders. Plan on getting wet here, as children tend to do anything but dodge the water-squirting fish!

The Inside Spin

The Inside Spin

  • In the true tradition of Dr. Seuss, the designers of this section of the theme park wanted to make sure that there were no straight lines or right angles. Even the palm trees that they planted were twisted and bent. After Hurricane Andrew devastated the Homestead community, just South of Miami, Universal Studios collected some of the trees that had been disfigured and transplanted them into Seuss Landing. This took some planning, since the Islands of Adventure theme park did not open until several years later. Today, most of these trees have begun to straighten out and won’t be crooked much longer.

  • The only books that outsell Dr. Seuss books in the United States are bibles.

  • Dr. Seuss invented the word “nerd,” which first appeared in his 1950 book If I Ran the Zoo.

  • After crossing the bridge onto Seuss Landing, look for a fish pond on the right. If you toss coins into the fish’s mouth, he will spray you with water.
